CapitalOne - Lost payment waiver?
I recently managed to miss a payment on a CapitalOne small business card; I was in India with limited net access at the time so I sent in a payment well ahead of time for more than the previous minimum (the card's at 0% APR right now so no need to pay it off in full.) They never received it, which I didn't find out until I went to check my account a few weeks later... Called them up, the best they can do is submit a request to have the $29 late fee refunded. I'm more concerned with my otherwise-unblemished credit card history of course; thankfully they only reported the 30 day late under my company EIN and not my SSN (as my personal credit is more important to me at the moment,) but of course I'd still like to get that off there since my company credit will become more important as business hopefully improves. Talked to multiple people, a supervisor, etc. Nothing they can do.
Anyone ever successfully have a late removed with CapitalOne? Am I best off just trying to dispute it with Equifax or am I screwed? Most CC companies are more accomodating in such situations...I had an Amex experience once when I paid my Business Platinum from the wrong checking account which had insufficient funds; they told me I could just pay the next day (making it 1 day late) from the right one and it'd be fine (can't make more than one payment in a day, or cancel a payment,) but I ended up with a late fee and my account suddenly suspended. Called them back and everything was cleared up in a few minutes.
I know it's *my* fault CapitalOne didn't receive the check, but one time good will exemptions are something I expect on a small business account especially. I will be closing my CapitalOne account once the late fee request goes through, and staying far, far away from them in the future.
