Rebound rhinitis is a known adverse effect of Afrin spray (Afrin is not "addictive" but can be habit forming). Usually occurs with 2-3 days of regular use. The "rebound" can be worse than the initial congestion, so many health care providers do not recommend Afrin at all.
Afrin type sprays work great, but do not be tempted to over use them. I'll just use them once a day, (most often before bed, to get a good nights sleep) for 2 or 3 days.
