So, I'm just going to state up front that I know that I'm opening the door wide open to getting flamed. Nonetheless, I thought I'd throw some of my thoughts out there.

I find it rather amusing that this statement appeared in this thread. I would, in fact, argue that it is the other way 'round. And, I offer y'all this entire thread as evidence thereof! I, for one, do not pretend to call myself an expert on things Canadian (but I am aware of many things about our neighbors to the north, such as the reputation y'all assign to Newfies).
I am truly sorry that so many of you think that opinions such as those expressed by Congressman Hostetter are typical of America. I actually find his thinly veiled threat highly offensive and rather disgusting. Don't ask me why we've taken lately to crapping all over our traditional friends and allies -- it's short-sighted and stupid, at best. I'm afraid that my country is currently under the throes of yet another bout of isolationism to which we are from time to time subject. And, I really wish that these fools in Congress would stop wasting their time and my tax money on ridiculous issues such as the "threat from Canada" (though I daresay that this isn't really a hot topic, despite what this article may have implied). If I have to read one more article about all the effort and energy being put into a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, I really just might lose it. But, at least y'all seem to see that this guy is a nut. Though I will argue that most of our elected officials are
not the gun-totin' type; I know mine aren't (or maybe that comment was specific to Indiana). My suggestion: take the amusement factor out of all this that you can and be glad that these aren't
your elected officials!
Most people here (the reasonably intelligent ones, at least) do not want the Canadian border shut. But, some of us, such as myself
do want to know why the hell it's so expensive to fly to Canada! I'm visiting Toronto and Montreal from June 29th through July 4th (yep, I'll be celebrating Canada Day in Canada!). My ticket is bought and it wasn't cheap (looking forward to flying AC -- I'm curious about it). Another friend of mine is having a heck of a time trying to find a reasonable fare between DCA/BWI and YYZ (I actually found a ~$309 R/T itinerary). Maybe AC doesn't
want us going to Canada?
And, did y'all seriously not think any Americans would come across this thread?
