I was able to secure a seat in the Upper Deck with no problem. I just notified the reservations agent that I was Star Alliance Gold, and I got the entire emergency exit row in the UD to myself. The only caveat is having to call the reservations line. In the US, it took almost 20 minutes to get an agent on the phone. The UD was almost empty on my flights. Most of the passengers opted to go reseat themselves on the main deck because the arm rests did not go into the upright position on the UD seats.
