It will be. LAX-FRA is 5806 miles, LAX-ORD-FRA is 6087. This means you lose 279 miles each direction (plus COS bonus and elite bonus miles if applicable).

For DEN-FRA on UA944, I always book DEN-ORD and ORD-FRA to get the 5231 miles instead of the direct 5039 miles.
