I fly AUS-DAL-AUS about once every six weeks to look in on my elderly maternal grandmother, who doesn't have a computer. My dad and step-mom also live in Dallas and my dad's the one who picks me up at Love Field, drops me off at granny's and then picks me up several days later whenever I'm scheduled to return to AUS. My parents
do have a computer.
This is "our" routine.
1. Once I've made my reservation, I forward Dad the itinerary so he'll know when to pick me up.
2. The day before my flight to DAL, I check in online at home, but don't print out the boarding pass until I get to the airport. (The stub makes a great bookmark and I save it for my records in case I somehow don't get credited for the flight, which, btw has never happened.)
The day before I fly back, he pulls up the e-mail with my itinerary and gets my confirmation # and checks me in online, prints out the boarding pass and puts it in the glove compartment of the car.
4. The next day when he picks me up to take me to Love Field I retrieve it out of the glove compartment, although I usually reprint it at the kiosk when I check in my luggage.
It works like a charm and he's done it so many times he's got it down pat. He
always gets me in the A boarding group.
Not only is he the greatest dad, he's a darn good personal assistant, too.
