1.) Mythbusters did a great test on people driving just under the legal BAC level and people on cell phones. Guess who drove more erratically and handled distractions worse? Yup - the cell phone yakkers. The people who drank alcohol were just under .08 BAC, which I guess was the legal limit in the state they did the test in, yet they still didn't do too good either. But comparing the two - the cell phone crowd was definitely worse.
2.) Mythbusters did another piece on cell phone interferance to airplane equipment. In fact the frequencies that cell phones *CAN* interfere with some navigation equipment, it's dependent on a lot of factors. While they tested the interferance in an older plane with older instrumentation, the NAV head needles were very erratic. The same test done on a modern business jet yielded no problems.
But, as has been said here many many times - the issue is not so much a flight hazard as it is an FCC violation to operate the cell phones at high altitudes (even 2000' above ground). They jam up more than one tower.
