I will make the obligatory pitch for www.seatguru.com It has plane configurations for each aircraft on each airline and comments on the good and bad for each seat. It is a valuable resource.

My preference (when not getting upgraded of course) is exit row window, unless it's a 737 where there is no seat in front of me. I've really grown averse to aisle seats because I get clobbered by service carts.
