Trans-Atlantic *A Award options?

I'm looking at booking a *A C award for myself and girlfriend, ex-YYZ in the late July / early August timeframe. We're planning to attend a friend's wedding in Milan but the rest of the itinerary is fairly open.

It looks like there are reasonably good options/availability for domestic sectors on each side of the Atlantic, but the trans-Atlantic sector availability is limited around this time.

I have a couple of questions:

For the outbound, we're thinking of flying in to Germany on LH. It looks like we can choose between either a 744 YYZ-FRA flight (old C, I think) or a 343 YUL-MUC (with new C). The stopover would only delay us by 2-3 hours - is taking an extra stopover is worth it to get the new LH C?

On the return, options seem a bit more limited (at least what I've discovered so far). I'd quite like to take a stopover in NYC, and currently considering LH's DUS-EWR PrivatAir A319 service, though the date it is available isn't ideal.

Any other interesting routes/carriers that I should look for? There's no availability on SQ26, unfortunately.
