Just read "Can anyone join? -- You need to be a resident of (or at least have the use of an address in) UK, Republic of Ireland, Belgium, France, The Netherlands or Spain. (This list is taken from the T&C, but other people have had success from other countries – feedback welcome.)"

So let's see if I make it with a DE adress or if I have to use my UK one... will check the original conditions on their website first because the FAQ states "It's all changing! Very little of what follows is right any more. Will update it all properly when the dust settles. This remains for the moment as a reminder of "what you could have won"...
You should use your U.K. address when you sign up, you can change it later to the German address.

Be careful with the membership year: You have your personal year for elite qualification - and it is reset when you reach silver and gold status for the first time. If you join today, your membership year starts June, 1st. If you reach silver by July, 10th, your new membership year starts at this date. If you reach gold by September, 20th, your membership year starts again at this date and it will stay the same as long as you are gold.

If you intend to credit the miles to BMI only every second year, it would be the best for you, if (after reaching gold) your membership year starts in the middle of the year (at least not in December or January).
