Yabbut in 1977 it was still 360 yen to the dollar...

Also, re: Capsule Inn Osaka, while the base price is Y1600, there are surcharges for everything including use of the showers (5 min for Y200 or some such). According to their home page -- http://www.capsulehotel-inn-osaka.com/ -- spa entry and the capsule costs Y3300, and I'm not sure if you can get just the capsule without the spa... although I vaguely recall doing this back in '98 or so?
