I did it! I did it!
You can read my whole purpose of the LAX - OXR - LAX flight in the Mileage Run forum, if you want...
This was so much fun.. I got to hassle the TSA woman in terminal 6 who was in defiance of the TSA SOP for removing shoes - and got her reprimanded... and the GA at Oxnard was flustered on my first RT there on Saturday because I didn't get to the gate in time.. which I think is pretty funny because my delay was due to the plane being delayed leaving LAX, and it was the same plane that goes from OXR to LAX. I simply got off the first flight, went through the exit, gave my boarding pass to the agent, and got back on the same plane. The FA on the Saturday RT was thoroughly confused by me doing a mileage run.
On the Monday flight - different flight crew, but same TSA people at OXR. When the OXR GA announced that she was short one passenger on the flight from, the TSA person asked if it was Jello2594, and indeed it was. He told her, "Oh that guy is on that plane landing now - don't worry." And sure enough, there I was, getting back on the same plane I arrived on. This FA knew that I was doing a mileage run, and thanked me for my continued loyalty to United Airlines.
But, in addition to the beautiful views I had from the windows of the plane, I got almost 10,000 RDMs off of this MR that took me a total of about 3 hours start to finish (2x 60 minute round trips, plus drive time to LAX from home - both days).
LAX - OXR - LAX (x2) at 88 bucks each RT. $217 total with taxes for both trips.
I'll break it down...
4x 500 miles = 2000 miles (base)
4x 125 miles = 500 miles (2P bonus - I'm a 1P now, though)
2x 2500 miles = 5000 miles (online booking and check-in bonus)
4x 500 miles = 2000 miles (double mile bonus for ua.com)
1x 434 miles = 434 miles (UA Visa Platinum card bonus for ua.com purchase)
Total = 9,934 RDMs and 2,217 EQMs. Yay, I did my very first mileage run.. and even if you think I didnt get a good mile to dollar value - I had a fun time doing it.
