I am planning to visit Ayers Rock on an upcoming trip to Australia. I have a ticket in and out of Alice Springs, arriving late morning and leaving early afternoon 2 days later. Should I rent a car and drive to Ayers Rock? Should I book a tour? And if so, how do I find a tour company that fits my time constraints?

If I do this on my own, where should I stay in Uluru? Alice Springs? Do I spend both nights in Uluru, or one in each town? Also, what weather can I expect in September?

I am traveling on an AONE4 RTW. Should I try to rebook to fly into Ayers Rock and skip Alice Springs? Fly into Ayers Rock and out of Alice Springs? (Of course, this is contingent on being able to find inventory at this point.)
