Can someone explain to me how this works: I buy an H class or a V class ticket from an agent (corporate travel), and then I see that there is a W class available in September, will I be able to get that refunded, and also is there a charge?

I bought a T class ticket for another trip, but realized I couldn't upgrade it so I called United and they said the difference for the T and W class was around 200 and I could pay that and they would change the fare basis (of course I took it).
I believe that on certain International tickets, if you buy up in class then they don't charge the change fee (this does not hold true for domestic - even when trying to buy from coach up to first, which is a real peeve of mine). However if the fare drops then you would only be able to get a refund in the difference in fare if the original ticket was refundable, otherwise the refund would be minuts the change fee, or the refund could be taken in UA vouchers in which case the change fee would not be taken away. Please note that if you upgrade the ticket, it is very important to be careful when requesting a fare difference refund, as you need a good agent that will still hold the upgrade seats while the "new" ticket is being issued.
