Turbulence is just one of those things that you have to deal with across the Atlantic. You can sometimes get an idea if a flight is going to be rough--watch for weather on the east coast a few days before.

I think it's unusually to have turbulence for the entire flight: an hour or two makes more sense to me--and that would be a rough flight. From what you wrote, it suggests that there was no in-flight service; that sounds unusual.
