I assume that this is like LAX-JFK where they don't release A inventory until late in the game, I'm just wondering how late, and how likely that flight is to fill with full fare F customers if I buy now and waitlist for the mileage upgrade. If people clear with <98% success rate (this is mileage upgrade to A, not sticker/EXP upgrade to X) then I'd rather go via DFW or ORD and have one half on a 777 or 763 but the entire trip in F.
I fly AA 252 LAX-MIA @ 13:45 very often on Fridays and upgrades are very difficult no matter if they are mileage, or sticker, or even explat. This flight seems to always be very full and usually you can spot one or more celebrities late to board in F/C (full fare F?). I am probably 20% successful in upgrading on this flight. You might have better luck on a mid week flight... The 6/16 flight will be tough.
