I agree.
Not that food in Chinatown in the US or Europe or anywhere else is necessarily authentic, it is at least an effort to be so, and the one in NYC is one of the better ones - with a great variance amongst the restaurants in terms of authenticity and even edibility.
The reference to French Toast (and even French Fries) is also apt, even more a reminder to us all is the comment of the co-worker. We should remember not to start (or remain) on the basis that french toast is THE french food, while escargots are a no no, pate, foie gras, blood duck, are strange and epoise is too stinky. Not that french toast is not enjoyable, but like themicah advocates, it is enligtening to learn about other cultures. Food is often an acquired taste.
