There's a renovated Motel 6 for $49.99 just off the airport property to the southeast. It may have been a Ramada in its past life. It's available through the Motel 6 website, but is not listed in the Motel 6 printed directories. It's good if you appreciate the sound of airplanes. There's even an airport shuttle to it, well maybe it's the Dollar rent-a-car shuttle, and oh it doesn't run very often. On the other side of Motel 6 is a San Diego style adult entertainment establishment for those who can't get to TJ. It's a bit of a walk, short by Europeans standards, to San Diego's Little Italy section, which is expanding northward. From there, you have access to the Trolley. The area seems safe to me, but I'm male and had a rental car.
