As far as the OP's case goes, that's an expected service and doesn't warrant tipping. If there is a problem with room service or any other request which is efficiently and unbegrudgingly granted by the hotel staff, yes without doubt.

It's going the extra mile which makes the difference, if they do it with the attitude that you're inconveniencing them and they're doing you a favour - they should rightly receive some short shrift and sod off. :-:
