Not if your pack it properly. You can get away with packing most things in checked baggage (glass, musical instruments etc) if they are packed properly and as long as the x ray won't spoil them.

) but I've also had no problem carrying on 2 bags - you are allowed to as long as you are travelling F/J and the total weight of the bags is less than 12K.
