North-south and east-west mainlines will cross at the new station, with below-grade track levels having skylights to allow daylight at the lower level.

Regional rail and rail transit will also serve the station.

Running times particularly in the north-south direction will vastly improve, with Berlin-Leipzig now cut to as little as 1 hour from 1 hr, 50 min.

Soon, German rail service will be almost as good as Amtrak.
