Interesting - did you not like your seat assignment or didn't you have one that you ended up on the seating chart to see what's available? Was there no back option on the screen so you can complete the check in without selecting a seat? Yes, i do believe you should've been able to receive a pass that would let you get through security even if no seat was able to be assigned.
