I actually like Oahu and I've found those who don't stay in the greater Honolulu/Waikiki area for 3 or 4 days.
We sleep in Waikiki but actually spend very little time there. The island has so many different things to see & do that we don't tire of.
On a week long trip we're good for at least 2 drives to the North Shore and 2 to Kailua. Add a day exploring the Diamond Head area, plus one for the Manoa valley, and the week is almost finished.
We'll spend a day or 2 just lazing about, but we prefer to keep moving.
BUT, we have a new love for Kauai, and I don't think we ever spent so much time doing nothing on vacation, though we did go out for a couple of the 9 days we were there.
