I guess I would be hard-pressed to pay for domestic F on any airline in this country. I just can't see the price difference, when for a few adult beverages and sleep-aids...I'll be fast asleep for at least a few hours. Now international would be a different story.

But you would be surprised how many people pay it at the last minute when there is nothing left. Hence why US is holding so many seats for revenue lately. Three times this year I've had to bite it and buy an F seat...because that is all that was left. Living in rural NC, who else am I going to fly?

On a weekly basis US has held 2-4 seats on 461 and 360 (CLT/ORD). Sometimes these flights sell out 2 weeks in advance. US could easily fill a 321 or 757 on this route instead of a 737. Last week, the FA I've seen quite a lot on this run, through our conversation went down her manifest. Sure enough 4/12 seats were paid F. 8/12 were upgrades. Said she sees this quite a lot in certain cities.
