While I have never deposited a canadian dollar bankdraft, I had before deposited US dollar checks and bank drafts at HSBC. The fee they charged was pretty high, around HK$300 per check/draft and took like at least 2 weeks to clear. The amount was credited in US dollars into my account, and then I had to have it converted back in HK$. I think it helped that I had a US dollar account with HSBC, so perhaps your friend would need to open a canadian dollar account before they would let her deposit the draft. Also, it may help if your friend got a HK ID card first, as I am sure there are all sorts of bureaucracy hurdles you have to go through to open any bank account without one.
