Actually, many of us would actually BUY the kid a seat if we planned on using it. You should have to hold the baby if you didn't buy a seat.
JS brings up a great point re: the center seat. As a non-parent, I wasn't going to suggest what he said as I didn't want to endure the holier-than-thou parents' rationalization.
