I've used a couple of these certs for J class over the past few years and my travelling companion didn't receive any points.

Was their AP number in the file? I've actually had an AC staffer tell me to take out an aeroplan number from a PNR on an Amex 2 for 1. Of course, a couple days later I put it back in.
