I, too, am in the same boat in that I will miss not making 1K for 2007. I have been a 1K since a late upgrade in 1994. I have been 1K every year through this year (2006). I appreciate the benefits that comes with 1K (SWUs, CR1s, dedicated checkin lines at major airports, high priority).
I am a MM flyer and have the benefit of lifetime 1P status. That is a good thing since I will not fly enough annually to even qualify for 1P if I had to, not to mention maybe traveling less than 25,000 miles for 2P qualification. Yes, FTers, this is a great ( ^ ) thing not traveling much since almost everything I did for travel was business.
That said, if I had to travel again, I would certainly pull out all the stops and make sure I qualify for 1K, no question. Sharing mid-tier status on multiple airlines is not even a consideration for me as I am almost 100% loyal to UA due to my home base.
