Use Priceline.

San Diego is a resort location year around. Our airport is one mile from downtown. Any hotel nearby is in a highly desireable location.

If you don't want to use Priceline, La Pensione is a good budget choice, and is in a pleasant neighborhood where there are some good restaurants within a block or two. Be aware that last time I checked, they didn't have air conditioning.
