How do I predictably get the reclining exit row on the planes that have the seat sometimes 13 and sometimes 14? Twice in a row, I put an important friend in the WRONG seat, and both times I had consulted both the AS Seat Map and SeatGuru.

I can get him in the exit row, but not in the reclining exit row. What is the winning formula for getting it right?
