Westin LAX
Stayed there in Mid April on a last minute priceline bid at tom bradley terminal for US$50. First time i've stayed at this property, got out of TOm Bradley and the shuttle had just arrived and caught it to the hotel at about 9am. Checked in with no problems, presented by SPG Plat card and they mentioned next time I should go to the designated plat area for checkin if I wanted. Menionted I wouldn't earn stay credit/points for the stay as it was on "Priceline". Asked for 2 beds, said only a king, she looked a little harder and found 2 beds a few moments later after I said, I only planned to spend the day in the hotel for a flight later that evening.
Room was great, 2 nice sized queen beds, internet in the room is about US$9.95/day, no wireless signals to be found, view of the runway on the 7th floor. Ususal Westin fare - shampoos, nice bed, showerhead, etc. Good choice on TV, and a short walk down the road to the gas station has plenty of snacks there (v8 juice, etc, etc) and a Denny's down the road, Carl's Jr, Pizza Hut, McDonalds and Taco Bell. The room service prices were relatively steep.
Gym is excellent, with plenty of machines, free weights and joggers with plasma screens on each. Bathroom is fully stocked with shampoos, towels and lockers and a great shower. Noticed gym door was just open (not locked). Pool / jacuzzi under renovation (i'm sure it will be great once done). Sauna is in the gym. Gym is 24 hours.
Free wireless internet in the hotel lobby (though it was down from about 5pm onwards through to the next day - real pain, as was their phone system for quite a while). As a gold or plat member you can go into the little lounge area they have there and get access to the net on a laptop there for free, apples, tea/coffee. Nice setting.
The shuttle service runs every 15-20 mins. Contrary to others, noticed there to be plenty of bellboys and the conceirge always there.
Upon checkout the next day (managed to change the flight), provided my SPG Plat card and they credited me for the phone calls for the stay (no stay credit) so got all of about 6 SPG points. Quick, efficient checkout (as was the checkin).
I'd love to stay here again, especially on a priceline bid. Can't compare to the Sheraton LAX or 4pts LAX as i've never stayed there.
I know this ain't a great idea - but if you're stuck in LAX for quite a few hours and bored.... get in the Westin Shuttle, go to the bar in the lobby at the Westin Lax, plug in your laptop, and enjoy the free wireless net and grab something to eat/drink there - you don't have to if you don't want to - great way to pass a few hours instead of paying for the net or getting bored walking around LAX.
