The upgrades were given to non-elite standby passengers. All confirmed passengers (including two oversales in Y bumped up to F) were already given boarding passes.

Agreed -- I hadn't thought about that, but that would have been the "right" thing to do in my mind, even before upgrading me as a standby.

Except for a 258 mile flight, I'm not going to burn an upgrade. I'd rather use it STL-DFW which is 550 miles!
