The Kirin on Alberni (downtown) is Szechuan. However, they do have some dishes that cater to the Japanese (chili crab) and Cantonese palates. The Kirin in City Square is Cantonese.

The Banana Leaf is also good. I didn't bring it up since I thought the OP wanted suggestions for downtown.
