From looking at their website, it looks like you can do that. And I think I'll present this exact question to their customer service agent before doing so.

I viewed the link from the original post on this topic and it states 1500 miles for signing up. Then I saw at aa.com that the bonus is for 1000 miles. I then followed the link from aa.com and it reports 2200 miles. I wonder if there are several offers or if it's changing quickly each day.
