What I was trying to assert was that the additional security proceedures are imposed by the US Government not the Belgians, thats why most European Airports have seperate gates and additional security for US bound flights.
To be fair, security at Belgian airports is a Belgian issue. The authorities do however consult with the US authorities, who in turn inspect the airport from time to time and have the right to stop direct flights to US airports if security measures do not meet to their satisfaction.
