I'm AS MVP and have been flying Delta a lot lately (in and out of ATL). I've had good luck getting exit row seats (I generally grab them when I do online check-in. I think they might be released day-of-flight, though I'm not really sure as my travel agent usually books my original seat assignment so I don't get a look at the seat maps till I go to check in).
If your MVPG number is in the booking, you should have access to exit row and other premium seats on Delta.com. If not you can call DL Res (although good luck, because it's an offshore call center, the hold times are usually long and in my experience the agents were spotty at best) or wait until the OLCI window, at which point exit row seats may come open (or they may all have been snagged by then, so getting them in advance is encouraged)
I flew them last week and got exit rows, Group 1 boarding and lobby check-in at the elite line all thanks to my MVPG card. It was also my first time flying with their in-seat TVs on the ex-Song 757s -- pretty cool.
