Suppose you could. It seems no different than "missing" your first flight. The danger is that there is no availability the remainder of the day and you will miss your connection. 1K should help with your priority though.

Personally, I'm risk adverse to gambling before trans-Atlantic flights (always avoiding tight connections, accounting for possible bad traffic, avoiding too much boozing the night before at the risk of sleeping through the alarm...).
