Many countries have annual Lounge Memberships... Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges, United Airlines Red Carpet Club, etc. I'd love to see a TG offer Royal Orchid Annual Membership too.
I think the majority of LCC passengers are too price sensitive to make overcrowding from membership attendence a contributing problem.
I guess the theory is though that the airline wants to try and hook you into flying with them by offering you lounge membership. If they made access available regardless of airline flown then the main incentive of offering the lounge (for the airline) is gone. If you want access regardless of airline then you'll have to get One World Emerald Status or equivalent *A if they offer it??. But then your doing so much flying anyway that the original purpose is negated
I think Louis Tavern at BKK do offer a pay per use system there...although its a pretty C grade lounge. but its quiet.
