OT: Problem Depositing Bank Draft in Hong Kong

Your advice is much appreciated on how to get money deposited into a HK bank account. My friend who has moved from Canada to HK (she flew CX & loved it ^ ) and is waiting to receive her HK identity card is having a lot of trouble opening up a bank account and depositing a bank draft drawn from a Canadian bank. This is money she is relying on to sustain her initial months of rent, transport, food. It seems the big 4 - HSBC, Charter, Bank of China, Hang Sheng all said no they won't take a foreign bank draft. That is surprising considering a bank draft is secure and as good as it gets b/c the money has already been withdrawn already. One of the bank upon a lot of push back told her she can open up an account but they have to put a hold on the bank draft for 2-3 months so they can cash it first with the Canadian bank. What kind of first hand experience can you offer to find a solution to her problem? Thanks a lot.
