NW didn't file ch 11 because of their 800yr old DC-9's. It sure didn't help, but there are many other reasons why they ended up filing. An older fleet does not mean AA is headed to ch 11.
Actually, until the price of oil really took off, NW's DC-9s were actually
helping the bottom-line, because NW finished paying for them long ago, as opposed to other airlines who owe huge lease or financing payments on their planes.
