Well, I don't remember salivating, dry mouth more likely, but my fairly ordinary shoes have metal in the sole and have set off metal detectors in many airports in recent years. So I do take off my shoes whether asked to or not. I should get new ones, I suppose (the manufacturer advertises an airport-friendly version now).
