I don't know, but if I am not wearing socks/tights when travelling and am asked to remove my shoes (to put them through the x-ray machine) in security screening areas... my thoughts tend to go from "when will I learn", to "God, I hope this floor is clean"...

That normally only happens at US airports though... otherwise, have no idea.
