Cathay Pacific does this too, amazingly even for AA Platinum members flying on Cathay metal. I (no AA status) was traveling on Cathay in Y with my co-worker (AA Platinum). He got a hello and a cool Cathay pen. He introduced me to the Pursor and asked if I could have a pen too. She, without looking at me at all, said, "Sure!!" and handed HIM a second pen.

My co-worker tells me, "Next time we can fly United and you can get ME a pen!" I should have told him, "We'll be lucky if they let us BORROW a pen!!"
