As for the IDB question. I'd do a search on "Customers of Size" because we've surely had this discussion before on what happens when an extra seat is IDBed.
True, $160 in fees is likely to be more economical than an RT ticket.
However, my question is much more related to whether the airline would refuse to let the dog occupy the seat paid for with a ticket on the grounds that the passenger in question is a dog. If the dog is small enough, it's not the same as extremely overweight passengers.
For the record, I have no pets - lest anyone fear that I'm planning on bringing a 100 pound labrador onboard anytime soon.
