I've heard of this "rent a car and sleep" idea. with overnight car rentals almost down to $25/day all-in (can someone sleep in a Kia?), it is cheaper then a hotel room...

I'm slightly embarrassed to admit it, but I've done that a few times... on my "quasi" MR's, I tend to allow some time to sightsee in a new city, so I don't favor the turn-arounds in the airport. I'll usually pack a blanket and pillow, rent a car, and grab some shut-eye (important, must bring eye-shades). I try to rent either the cheapest car with a large trunk area or something like a PT Cruiser. On occassion, I've gotten a mini-van for an upgrade. I have to admit though, it gets cold in some cities and my thin Socal blood doesn't enjoy that too much.
