The equipment must have switched from an A345 to an A343, the latter has 12 fewer J seats.
I have been burnt in similar situations before and at that time, AC would not pay any compensation. This policy was subsequently changed. Please read the last paragraph of my post#2 above.
A343 is capable of flying YYZ/HKG nonstop, presumably with some load restrictions. We found out on arrival HKG that some checked baggage was actually left behind on my flight. Mine was fine as it was priority tagged.
