There is no way to "reserve" a class-J upgrade. You can stand-by at the airport, that's it. Also, same day upgrade is depending on the availability. If your ticket is issued by AA(regardless of the class, especially an AAward), It would be hard to upgrade. That way, You need to bribe GAs with some Pocky. Trust me... It should work.
