I'm planning to go to HNL for week, leaving from SFO and wondering if I should count on an upgrade (plenty of seats available) to First Class based on my platinum status or whether I should fork over 35000 miles for an upgrade upfront.

As the last poster mentioned, no EUA to Hawaii. Hawaii residents get some upgrade vouchers, but that's it. You may be offered the chance to buy an upgrade to F though. I just flew SFO-HNL last weekend, plane was barely 40% full both ways, had whole row to sleep in both directions, worth ALOT more to me that the domestic F seats on the route.
