I may be alone on this, but I am sad to see the Boeing 737-200 retire from the DL fleet. I felt the same way when they retired the L-1011 fleet.
However, I have especially missed the old three-holers (Boeing 727-200).
1. Slow takeoff roll that felt like the plane would never lift off the ground (especially when laden with a full fuel load on the CVG - LAX route).
2. Wide (cloth) first class seats with LARGE fold-down table.
3. Three (3) professionals sitting up front guiding the plane to it's next destination. Always a secure feeling to know the flight engineer was scanning the gauges to ensure a safe flight.
4. And just the smell of the plane (not in a bad way), but the smell of experience, the smell of many miles traveled, the smell of food trays warming the Omaha Steaks that would soon be on my fold-down table....
Ahhhh...the good ole' days of avaiation!
