Among the changes to security in travel, there are some I would like to see. How many times have we waited at the gate standby, for an upgrade or to have someone's luggage removed because they were a no show? Gate agents should have phone numbers to call these people and ask- are you really coming or not? Most of these are full fare very frequent flyers and I can not attack them however because I am guilt of not showing up for a few flights myself.
However due to a misconnection or running late to the airport, not once has my cell phone in my PNR profile rang. I would like to be notified of these changes in addition to flight delays and cancellations. I don't consider it lack of privacy or anything like that.
Besides, I would rather be called by an airline agent who could rebook me than an FBI agent suspicious why I was not on a plane or not.
With all of this new technology, we should all be more interconnected. We should be able to have bar code scanners at check in counters for our US passports or a national id connected to a central database along with of course message notification to our cell phones or pagers.
Lastly, we have had hijacking in the past but yet cameras have not been installed on board aircraft. Every ATM it seems in the US has a camera so it can't be that expensive to just put in cameras, right? FAA can't be everywhere but the cameras could be their eyes.
Curbside check-in elimination and only ticketed passengers allowed is the wrong, long way to go.
